Antonio Conte has provided a fitness update on Dejan Kulusevski ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old has missed Spurs’ last five games due to a hamstring injury.

Having lost Richarlison to a calf injury against the Brazilian’s former club Everton on Saturday, the north Londoners were hoping for good news regarding the Sweden international.

Although Conte is able to call upon the deadly duo Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, the former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan manager would have no doubt liked to have had all four of his forwards available for the trip to Old Trafford.

Speaking on Kulusevski’s potential availability for the clash against Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils, Conte said: “Kulusevski is working. We are going day by day with him. I don’t know about the game against Manchester United, the doctors are working with him.

“It’s the same injury [hamstring]. The medical department are working to recover him but at the same time there are situations that you have to go a bit slowly and not accelerate the process. Sometimes if you do that you worsen the situation.

“We hope to have him in the squad very soon. Deki is an important player for us, and Richy is an important player for us.”

Tottenham’s number 21 has one goal and three assists from seven Premier League appearances so far this season.

Following his arrival from Juventus in January, Kulusevski, who plays alongside United duo Victor Lindelof and Anthony Elanga for his country, scored five goals and laid on eight assists from 18 top-flight appearances.

Manchester United did the double over Spurs in the Premier League last season.

Last October, in a clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came out on top of the matchup between two under pressure managers.

United beat Tottenham 3-0 thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford.

Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked after being beaten by the twenty-time league champions.

Even with Conte at the helm, the Italian’s side was on the receiving end of a Ronaldo masterclass as United’s number seven scored a hat-trick to ensure his side beat Spurs 3-2.
