Tottenham Hotspur attacker Richarlison is set to miss this week’s fixture at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
Richarlison suffered an injury in Tottenham’s weekend win over Everton and BBC Sport report he is already ‘ruled out’ of the upcoming midweek clash.
Manager Antonio Conte said: “For sure against Manchester United he’s out. He felt something in his calf and he won’t be available.”
Tottenham spent £60 million on signing Richarlison in the summer and he has started eight games in all competitions since his move.
The injury weakens Tottenham’s attacking options, with Dejan Kulusevski missing the weekend’s match through injury, although it is possible he recovers for Wednesday’s match.
Richarlison set to miss Manchester United fixture
Manchester United will still be in for a tough fixture without Richarlison with Spurs still possession strong attacking options, through Heung Min Son and Harry Kane in particular.
Weekend opponents Newcastle were without star attacker Allan Saint-Maximin and Manchester United still could not get all three points.
United’s problems at present are in the goalscoring department, with the Red Devils only managing to score one goal in the last two matches.
The midweek match sees United, in fifth, attempt to close the gap on Tottenham who sit third. There are seven points between the two teams but United have a game in hand, so a victory in this fixture for either side would be a huge result.
Richarlison’s injury could push Antony up the Brazil pecking order for the World Cup if it is severe enough to rule him out of the tournament, although this is a role the United winger would rather gain on merit, not by an injury to his international teammate.
