He is getting closer. Anthony Martial is nearing a return to fitness after he was pictured in training with the rest of the Manchester United first team.

The Frenchman looked in good spirits at Carrington as he trained in wintery conditions with the team preparing for the Europa League match with Real Betis.

Martial has not played for Manchester United since appearing as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on February 1.

Even now, he won’t be part of the squad against Real Betis this week, Erik ten Hag explained, via the club website.

Anthony Martial update

Anthony Martial may not quite be ready to rejoin the squad for the upcoming Europa League match in terms of his match fitness.

Erik ten Hag explained: “Anthony Martial is back on the pitch, so we will see. For the rest, everyone is available and we are ready for the game.”

Ten Hag did rule out Marcel Sabitzer with an unspecified injury.

There was better news regarding Victor Lindelof, who missed Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool. The Sweden international was back out on the training pitch.

Ten Hag has previously said he is happy to wait for Anthony Martial, as he does not want to rush him, and then see the forward suffer another setback.

Martial has only started three games in 2023, one of which saw him substituted off at half-time.

Wout Weghorst has been brought in on loan to fill the void, however he has only scored one goal so far.
