Anthony Martial gives three-word verdict on training under Erik ten Hag

Anthony Martial has a fresh chance at Manchester United this summer, an opportunity which seemed improbable and unlikely just a few weeks ago.

The Frenchman is currently United’s most senior striker, after Edinson Cavani was released, and Cristiano Ronaldo has still not returned to training amid claims he wants to leave.

Martial is enjoying training under new manager Erik ten Hag. He has given an early positive verdict on the sessions.

A happy Anthony Martial is a productive one. The Frenchman will likely get an opportunity to prove himself all over again in pre-season.

Like it or not, Martial is probably the best option United currently have in attack, and we have seen before that he can deliver, if he is in the mood.

A bit of positivity can go a long way, and Erik ten Hag appears to have put a smile back on Manchester United’s players faces.

It’s only pre-season, and reality may kick in once the campaign begins, but after the truly depressing end to last season, it’s alright to simply savour a moment with a bit of hope.

Back in mid-March when United’s season effectively ended with a Champions League exit, the thought of an optimistic start to July was what helped supporters get through it. Better times were ahead, and this is what we have been waiting for, the start of a fresh new journey.

Anthony Martial now has to prove he can play a role for United, and in the short-term, he can certainly be of use. Let’s not get too carried away beyond that, and simply see if he can start scoring goals again, having struck just nine first team goals at club level since the end of the 2019/20 season.
