Manchester United’s return to Premier League action last night came with a straightforward win over Nottingham Forest.

United won the game 3-0 with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred all on the scoresheet.

Martial’s goal continued his strong scoring run, which has come amid a stop-start season for the striker.

The Frenchman was making his ninth appearance of the season, and is now up to five goals for the campaign.

But wait, the statistics look even better when breaking down Martial’s minutes.

Martial averaging a goal every 61 minutes

Statistics from French outlet Statsdufoot show Martial is averaging a goal every 61 minutes.

Martial has only started five games, one of which saw him substituted off injured after just 25 minutes.

In other matches, Martial has played as a substitute and come off the bench to make an impact.

It was important United managed to get Martial onto the scoresheet now due to the break for the World Cup.

He is a confidence player who thrives when he gets a run of games, and he has that right now, as United’s first choice striker.

The club are expected to sign another striker in January, and it will be up to Martial to respond to the challenge for competition well. He hasn’t always done this in his career at the club.

His scoring rate is impressive, but it’s probably not sustainable. There will be dips in form, and there is also a big worry what could happen if he gets injured.

Martial’s three Premier League goals have come in 266 minutes of action. Cristiano Ronaldo managed just one in 520 minutes.
