Manchester United are continuing to battle through a never-ending injury crisis impacting the club’s season.
The latest player sidelined for the rest of 2023 is Sweden international captain Victor Lindelof.
Lindelof, 29, has not played since December 6 when he was substituted at half-time against Chelsea, a change which at the time appeared to be performance related rather than due to injury.
BBC Sport’s Simon Stone reports Lindelof has had ‘surgery’ and will be out for another fortnight. The exact nature of the problem ailing the defender is not specified.

Manchester United’s injury problems
Speaking at his press conference, manager Erik ten Hag has said he does not expect his injured players back before January.
This includes Mason Mount, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, each of who are back in individual training.
Along with the West Ham game this weekend they stand to miss games against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
Harry Maguire is also out after an injury suffered against Bayern Munich. He is also not expected back this year.
Lindelof’s injury leaves Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane as the only fit centre-backs.
Luke Shaw can fill in, but will certainly be needed at left-back this weekend with Diogo Dalot serving a one-game suspension.
While Lindelof’s situation appears minor by comparison, he is the second Manchester United centre-back to undergo an operation this season. Lisandro Martinez has been out since undergoing surgery back in September.
Bad timing for Lindelof
This latest injury issue for Victor Lindelof is a blow for him at a time when his future at the club is up for debate.
Lindelof’s contract expires at the end of the season and while United have an option to trigger a one-year extension, no decision has been made.
United are widely expected to pursue a centre-back next summer, and Lindelof, already a back-up, has failed to seize his opportunities this season.
