Andy Mitten: Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada satisfied with win despite “poor” Man Utd performance

Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada had a feeling of relief as they left the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night after Manchester United’s win over Everton.

Benjamin Sesko scored the only goal as Manchester United beat Everton 1- 0 in the Premier League.

It was far from a convincing display from Michael Carrick’s side, but a sensational counterattack proved enough to climb back into the top four.

Do you agree with Edwin van der Sar over his Lammens praise?

He was excellent against Everton, but is he the long-term goalkeeper for United?

Senne Lammens was kept busy in the United goal, though mostly because of Everton’s flurry of corner kicks. The 23-year-old kept his first clean sheet away from home in the Premier League.

Everton away is rarely a walk in the park, as some of United’s new players learned on Monday night.

Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada verdict on Everton 0-1 Man Utd

Sesko’s winning goal in the 71st minute settled a tight contest at Everton’s new home.

The Slovenian substitute ran to Bryan Mbeumo’s squared pass and slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford shortly after being introduced by Carrick.

There will be contenders for the man of the match award at the other end of the pitch. Lammens was incredible between the sticks, while Harry Maguire dealt with everything Everton threw at him.

Who was your Man Utd MAN OF THE MATCH vs Everton?

Let us know why!

The latest win is Carrick’s fifth victory in six games since returning to Old Trafford as head coach until the end of the season.

Reliable journalist and editor of United We Stand, Andy Mitten, spoke to United executives Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada.

“But it was a brilliant finish, a brilliant counterattack, which Sesko scored from a move which involved three of Manchester United’s summer signings,” Mitten said on Talk of the Devils.

“So as Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada left the stadium, had a little chat with them as well. They were obviously happy. But it was a poor game. It was a really poor game.”

United didn’t play particularly well two weeks ago, drawing 1-1 against West Ham, so Carrick will demand a better performance from his players when they take on Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Man Utd win over Everton is a step closer to Champions League qualification

With 11 games left to play in the Premier League, United have a three-point cushion in fourth place.

United benefited from Chelsea and Aston Villa dropping points over the weekend and, as things stand, Carrick’s side are just three points adrift of third place.

Chelsea drew 1-1 against Burnley at Stamford Bridge, while Villa got the same result against Leeds.

All United need to do for the remainder of the season is focus on themselves, ensuring they keep winning matches and putting pressure on the other teams hoping to qualify for Europe’s most prestigious competition.

It would make it much easier for United if Chelsea and Villa kept dropping points.
