The goalkeepers stole the headlines during Manchester United’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace.
It was an extremely frustrating evening for the Red Devils, who were held to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park despite dominating the match.
Manchester United, full of confidence from their 7-0 win over Barnsley, controlled the match well and created a bucket-load of chances. The only thing missing was the ball being put in the back of the net.
While United’s forwards should have done better with their chances, especially Bruno Fernandes who had a poor game in midfield, a lot of the credit has to go to Dean Henderon.
The United academy graduate was in superb form for the hosts and ended the match having made seven saves.
Henderson was named the Player of the Match for his display, but Andre Onana also deserves credit for a superb double save that stopped United going behind.
Andre Onana performance vs Crystal Palace
Andre Onana has faced his fair share of criticism since joining United, but he has hardly put a foot wrong this season.
His penalty save against Southampton was a season-turning moment for United, who have since kept three consecutive clean sheets – albeit one with Altar Bayindir in goal.
Onana didn’t have much to do against Palace, but when called upon he made an instinctive double save in the second half. He first denied Eddie Nketiah’s low strike before quickly getting up to deny Ismaila Sarr from close range.
Ten Hag raved about Onana’s “unbelievable” performance after the full-time whistle and Palace boss Oliver Glasner also praised him.
United’s defence has shown significant signs of improvement this season and Onana has been a key part of that.
Thibaut Courtois sends four-word reply to Andre Onana
A lot of the focus after United’s draw was the missed chances, but Onana also deserves credit and he got it from fellow goalkeeper and two-time Champions League winner Thibaut Courtois.
After the game, Onana took to Instagram to thank the away fans.
He posted: “Not the result we wanted but we battled hard till the end. Thanks away fans for fighting with us.”
Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois was quick to respond with a four-word message of his own: “What a save amigo,” he said accompanied with a fire emoji.
Onana then replied to Courtois: “Thank you brother”.
It seems everyone was in awe of Onana’s remarkable double save.
