Amad sends supportive message to Facundo Pellistri ahead of World Cup bow
Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is hoping to make his World Cup debut later today for Uruguay against South Korea.
The 20-year-old has been a regular for Uruguay over the past calendar year since receiving a surprise call-up to the squad back in January.
Now ahead of the tournament, Pellistri has received a message of good luck from Manchester United teammate Amad.
Amad signed for Manchester United at the same time as Pellistri, back in October 2020, although his own move had to wait until the following January to go through.
Neither player have yet been able to establish themselves at Manchester United – Pellistri is yet to make a competitive first team appearance.
Amad is currently out on loan at Sunderland, but has scored and assisted goals for the first team.
The pair combined in pre-season against Liverpool, with Amad setting Pellistri up to score the fourth goal in a 4-0 victory.
Pellistri’s future at United is uncertain after being overlooked by Erik ten Hag for the recent Carabao Cup tie and an exit, loan or permanent, is expected in the January transfer window.
The youngster has been tipped to shine at the World Cup, with his youth coach Martin Garcia telling El Observador, “he is extremely fast and technically he is very good.”
Pellistri has three assists in seven matches for Uruguay, two of which came in three World Cup qualifying games.
