Unlike their last few matches, Manchester United will not be the underdogs when they face Southampton in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim has guided Manchester United through a difficult run of fixtures which has involved positive results away to Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, between those matches, there was also disappointing defeats to Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle United.
Next up for the Red Devils is a clash at Old Trafford against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. Amorim must fix his terrible home record as United coach, and for the first time in a few weeks, the pressure is on to get a result.

Amorim must make changes to his lineup against the Saints with Diogo Dalot suspended. Amorim hinted that Toby Collyer could feature against Southampton, but regardless of who starts at Old Trafford – the Portuguese knows what he wants to see from his players.

Ruben Amorim is ‘worried’ by lack of consistency
One of United’s best performances of the season came in the 2-2 draw at Anfield but Amorim was frustrated by the Liverpool result.
That is because the Portuguese head coach questioned why his team has not been approaching every game with that mentality. If they had done, United wouldn’t be slumped down in 15th in the Premier League table.

Ahead of the Southampton clash, Amorim admitted he is “worried” by United’s lack of consistency.
During his pre-match press conference, Amorim said: “I’m always concerned because we didn’t have, during these games, the consistency in performance or results, so I’m always worried.
“It’s my job to be worried. But we have to face Southampton in the same way that we faced Liverpool or Arsenal, for example.
“That is the goal. Not more, not less. Understanding that they are different games and people expect us to win, and that changes things. When you have the pressure to win, that is the pressure that we want and sometimes it’s harder to cope with that pressure because against Arsenal and Liverpool, no one was expecting us to beat these teams. But now it’s different.”
Ruben Amorim lays down challenge to Man United players
Ahead of the Southampton clash, Amorim admitted United are a transition team. The Red Devils often have their best performances when they can sit back and counter-attack, but Amorim knows that will not be good enough to win a Premier League title.
His job is to transform this United squad into a side that can dominate and control matches.
That is exactly what will be expected against a team such as Southampton, who so far this season have only picked up six points.
In his matchday programme notes, as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Amorim challenged his players to approach the match the same as the recent visits to Liverpool and Arsenal.
“Over the last two matches, I have seen much more of what I expect from my team,” Amorim said.
“Our football still has to improve and there is a long way to go before we are playing the way this group is truly capable of playing but, in terms of fight, heart and hunger, we have seen the real Manchester United in the last two matches.
“In the past month, we have been to the Etihad Stadium, Anfield and the Emirates Stadium – three of the toughest places to play in the country – and taken positives outcomes from each one. To do that requires quality and character, but the job now is to show that in every single game, regardless of the opposition.”
