Ruben Amorim has the opportunity to correct a major wrong at Man Utd in next three games, it’s crucial

Ruben Amorim inherited a club in peril when he walked through the doors at Manchester United and despite a bumpy ride, has promised hope for the future.

Be it through reviving the careers of players like Harry Maguire or fixing the Man Utd weakness of playing away at top-six teams, Ruben Amorim has added layers to this team.

However, at the same time, a worrying pattern has emerged under him too, one that he will have the chance to start correcting in the next three games.

After two consecutive statement results at Anfield and the Emirates Stadium, the timing couldn’t have been better for the players too.

Ruben Amorim has a major Man Utd issue

So far, Amorim has managed Man Utd in 13 games and the raw stats don’t paint a pretty picture in terms of results but every Man Utd fan knows the deeper picture is much more optimistic.

In terms of pure results, he has managed to win only four of those 13 games, with a win over Arsenal on penalties technically counted as a draw.

At least those victories include a scalp of Manchester City and some confidence-inducing scorelines like 4-0 vs Everton. However, a worrying pattern has emerged where United look more vulnerable at Old Trafford than they do away.

Out of those 13 games, five have been at Old Trafford and the two wins they have came against Everton and Bodo in the Europa League.

Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest have rocked up at United’s home and not just beat Amorim’s men but completely outplayed them en route to a deserved victory.

The club conceded eight goals in those three games and even the Bodo win came as a result of a comeback victory after trailing 1-2.

Having corrected United’s weakness in big games, the next step is to make Old Trafford a fortress again. The next three games? At Old Trafford.

Perfect opportunity for Amorim and his players to step up

With their next three games at home against Southampton, Brighton, and Rangers, the true “marquee” games will pause for a bit but United need to fight the reputation of turning up only for the big games.

The home game against Southampton, the league’s bottom team, should be a chance for the Man Utd squad to put down a statement of intent that the inconsistent days are behind them.

Then comes Brighton, forever a banana skin for United regardless of the fixture being home or away. That game will be a marker for how far this team has come under Amorim.

Rangers at home in the Europa League will strengthen their credentials of finishing in the top-eight and avoiding two extra games in Europe.

Ideally, United should walk into the January 28 game away at Fulham on a three-game winning streak with a convincing performance in each of them.

Old Trafford deserves to have that aura reinstated.
