Rangers legend Ally McCoist has waxed lyrical about a “brilliant” Manchester United star under Erik ten Hag, despite admitting his time at Old Trafford is now up.
Erik ten Hag has seen sweeping changes to his Manchester United first-team squad this summer with the arrival of several new signings.
French defender Leny Yoro was snapped up from Ligue 1 side Lille and Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee arrived from Serie A outfit Bologna in July.
Ten Hag was also reunited with two of his former Ajax players earlier this month after United completed a double swoop for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
United splashed out a fee worth nearly £60m to bring Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils are expected to land another key target this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte set to sign for United.
Alongside the arrival of several new signings, United have offloaded the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Mason Greenwood and Willy Kambwala.

McCoist on Man Utd star
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Ally McCoist admitted that it would be in “everybody’s best interest” for Scott McTominay to leave Old Trafford.
Scott McTominay is out of contract with Manchester United next summer and the Scottish midfielder has been heavily tipped to make his exit from the club.
Fulham were linked with McTominay and saw a £20m bid rejected from United earlier this month, with the Red Devils initially holding out for a £30m fee.
However, it now appears that United have lowered their asking price for the 27-year-old Scotland international after agreeing a deal with Napoli.
BBC Sport reports that Napoli have secured McTominay for around £25.4m, with the United star travelling to Italy on Tuesday to complete his move.
“I think he has been great for United, I really, really do,” McCoist said.
“I think he has been terrific. I think, a young player coming through, he scored important goals.
“Brilliant for Scotland, by the way, brilliant for Scotland, McTominay’s goals, but I think looking at it now, I think his time is probably up at United, and I think it might be in everybody’s best interest because he is going to go and play somewhere, there’s no doubt about it. Good player.”
Ferdinand reacts to Man Utd star McTominay
Scott McTominay enjoyed a superb goalscoring run for club and country last season, with the United star scoring 10 times across all competitions for the Red Devils.
However, the Scotland midfielder was left struggling for first-team minutes, despite Erik ten Hag being a big fan of McTominay.
United legend Rio Ferdinand admitted that it is a risky decision that the Red Devils have made to sell McTominay this summer.
“I look at Scott McTominay and not every player can be a star, a standout player,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“But to win the league you need the likes of John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher… you need a Julian Alvarez at Man City.
“They might not start every game but they were huge, you need those players and most of them know the DNA of the club, especially ones who have come through the academy, there’s a lot to be said for that. It really doesn’t sit well with me.
“To replace him you’re going to have to spend £30m or £40m and give him £150,000 a week probably.
“It’s not going to be cheap and it’s a gamble, you don’t know what you’re going to get, whereas with McTominay you know what you’re getting.
“He might not always be a nine out of 10 but invariably he’s a solid seven out of 10 and sometimes he will be an eight out of 10 and get you a goal.”
