Alejandro Garnacho sets ridiculous record against Bournemouth that only Fede Valverde betters in Europe

Alejandro Garnacho starred as Manchester United drew against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Antoine Semenyo put the hosts in front after 23 minutes, but a late Rasmus Hojlund strike saved Ruben Amorim’s blushes once more in the Premier League.

It wasn’t an entirely convincing performance, but a point is better than none. The Red Devils need all the confidence they can get heading into a crucial Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club.

One man who will surely feature has to be Alejandro Garnacho. Given United’s lack of forwards, it’s almost a certainty he’ll be in the starting XI. Again, not a surprise, considering how much he’s featured this season.

Alejandro Garnacho has the most appearances of any Premier League player this season across all competitions

Sunday’s game was Garnacho’s 52nd match of the season across all competitions; the most by any Premier League player in 2024-25.

Remarkably, across Europe’s big five leagues, only Real Madrid and Uruguay star Fede Valverde has more (54).

In this time, he’s scored 10 times and obtained five assists. Not a bad return, by any means, although Garnacho will be desperate for more.

Garnacho’s future at Manchester United is uncertain, but this ludicrous record shows his importance for the moment, at least.

At just 20 years old, this begs the question – is he playing too frequently?

Is Alejandro Garnacho playing too much?

At such a young age, it’s important to not burn players out. Having played a ridiculous amount of minutes, Garnacho runs the risk of doing just that.

The Argentine looked absolutely knackered at full-time, which was noted by journalists. He also hasn’t been the same player that United fans got a glimpse of under Erik ten Hag all season.

Unfortunately for Amorim, United simply can’t drop Garnacho and give him a rest. He’ll have to have a well-deserved break over the summer months instead.
