Aaron Wan-Bissaka is ‘one of the best defenders ever’ says Peter Schmeichel

Peter Schmeichel has hailed Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defensive ability following Manchester United’s draw with Sevilla.

Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla was a disappointing one overshadowed by a potentially serious injury to Lisandro Martinez.

This makes it even more crucial that United’s other defenders step up. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be among those in the back four who Erik ten Hag will depend on.

He was picked out for some real praise by former Red Devils hero Peter Schmeichel.

Wan-Bissaka lauded

Aaron Wan-Bissaka kept it solid down his side during the draw with Sevilla. He was not at fault for either of the goals.

His performance was lauded by Schmeichel who told BBC Sport: “Wan-Bissaka is one of the best defenders ever, I think. You don’t get past him easily.”

Ever. Let that word marinate for a moment. That is seriously high praise.

Schmeichel didn’t just say one of United’s best defenders ever, which would be something in itself. He labelled Wan-Bissaka one of football’s best defenders ever.

It’s easy to see why he came to that conclusion. Wan-Bissaka is elite when it comes to one on on defending.

You can measure that in statistics, or simply through the eye test, watching him regularly shut down tricky wingers.

He won’t care for the praise though. Wan-Bissaka’s nature is just to keep his head down and get on with the task.

His future at the club is still a little unclear, amid reports United could look to sign Jeremie Frimpong. But with Wan-Bissaka currently looking like first choice right-back, he may not be the one making way.
