Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces defining four-day period under Erik ten Hag

Out-of-favour Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces defining four-day period under Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

The 24-year-old has only played four minutes of competitive football under the former Ajax manager and that came back in August during the 2-1 win against Liverpool.

Having been signed from Crystal Palace for £50m three years ago when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, the former England Under-21 international has found himself on the periphery at Old Trafford ever since the Dutchman took the reins.

The Telegraph report that the twenty-time league champions will look to sign a right-back in the January transfer window if Wan-Bissaka, who attracted summer interest from Palace and West Ham United, can be offloaded.

Despite returning to training at Carrington three weeks ago following a spell on the sidelines, United’s number 29 has only been included in one matchday squad and that was the Europa League trip to Real Sociedad.

Ten Hag’s side have two games remaining before the domestic season pauses for the World Cup, which kicks off later this month in Qatar.

United host Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup third-round tomorrow night before travelling to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Sunday.

Diogo Dalot, who has become a vital part of Ten Hag’s side, is the only outfield United player to have started every game this season, but the former Porto youngster is suspended for the trip to the Cottagers after picking up his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Villa Park.

With United’s number 20 being unavailable for the clash against Marco Silva’s promoted side, Ten Hag is going to have to change personnel at right-back.

While Wan-Bissaka, who seemingly lacks the technical and physical qualities Ten Hag wants from his full-backs, will be hoping for a recall and potentially a last chance to prove to Ten Hag that he can be moulded into the total football full-back he craves, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof have also featured at right-back this season.

If Wan-Bissaka isn’t brought out from the cold for tomorrow night’s cup tie, it’s highly unlikely that he’s going to be thrown into a Premier League game having not played for three months.

But with Dalot suspended for the Fulham game, Ten Hag may opt to play the in-form Portugal international against Villa.

Tomorrow night’s team selection is going to be a big indicator as to whether there is any sign of a way back for Wan-Bissaka under the three-time Eredivisie winner.

But if Wan-Bissaka doesn’t feature against Unai Emery’s Villains there is every chance that the £50m right-back won’t feature for Manchester United again with a January exit looking increasingly likely.
