Diogo Dalot suspended against Fulham after picking up fifth booking

Manchester United will be without Diogo Dalot for next Sunday’s Premier League clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

United’s number 20 picked up his fifth Premier League booking of the season in this afternoon’s 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Portuguese right-back picked up a yellow card for dissent towards referee Anthony Taylor in the 72nd minute when the Red Devils were becoming increasingly frustrated chasing a route back into the game.

Dalot’s compatriot Bruno Fernandes missed the loss against the Villains as our number eight served a one-game suspension of his own.

But as fast as one of our influential Portuguese stars return another will now be missing.

Diogo Dalot suspended for Fulham game

Dalot has started every single game under Erik ten Hag this season, but he won’t be able to maintain that impressive record come next Sunday.

The 23-year-old’s absence means that Ten Hag will have a selection quandary to contend with for the trip to the Cottagers.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has returned to training, but aside from a four-minute cameo against Liverpool back in August, the £50m signing from Crystal Palace hasn’t featured at all since the win against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof have been deployed at right-back at times when Dalot has been given a very rare rest.

Given where Wan-Bissaka seemingly stands in Ten Hag’s plans, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Malacia or Lindelof given the nod over our number 29, which will only solidify how out of favour he is under the former Ajax manager.

Dalot will be a big miss for United given how important he’s become in all aspects of our game.

But his absence against Fulham means he’ll likely start Thursday’s Carabao Cup third-round clash at Old Trafford.

But he won’t be back in Premier League action until the Reds welcome Nottingham Forest to the Theatre of Dreams on December 27.
