£35 million-rated Genoa defender Radu Dragusin is being tipped for a move to Manchester United as Premier League interest grows in the Serie A stopper.
A month ago, the Romania international’s agent claimed that Radu Dragusin was in ‘advanced talks’ over a move to England. A number of as-yet unnamed Premier League clubs in hot pursuit.
Could one of those suitors be Manchester United? This is a question we cannot really answer with any confidence, of course, but a young, ball-playing centre-half is certainly high on United’s wishlist heading into 2024.
Antonio Silva, Marc Guehi, Giorgio Scalvini and Goncalo Inacio are among those reportedly under consideration. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that 21-year-old Dragusin forces his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans, then, particularly with Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans all facing uncertain futures beyond the current campaign.
Manchester United want a new defender
Former Romania striker Florin Raducioiu, meanwhile, believes that Dragusin has the talent and the potential to thrive in English football, urging the former Juventus defender to aim higher than Jose Mourinho’s Roma outfit amid reports of a move to the Italian capital.
“I would very well see him in the English championship. In the Premier League. I think he deserves a move there. I think it could be a dream come true for him,” Raducioiu tells OrangeSport.
“Roma don’t seem like a big team to me. And, if everything goes well, he would deserve a bigger team than Roma. A team like Chelsea, or Manchester United.
“Mourinho doesn’t know how much longer he will coach.”
A centre-half is Ten Hag’s top priority
Dragusin’s representative believes Genoa will demand around £35 million for Dragusin. That is likely to make him slightly cheaper than the likes of Silva, Guehi, Scalvini and Inacio. The latter, for instance, has a £52 million release clause in his contract and Sporting Lisbon do not seem particularly keen to haggle.
The defender has nine caps for Romania and has 49 appearances for Genoa so far.
