It really is hard to pinpoint just what is going wrong for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United this season.
The England international just can’t seem to find any sort of form under Erik ten Hag this season, despite being undoubtedly United’s star performer in last year’s campaign.
The 25-year-old has just one goal and one assist in ten games in the Premier League this season.
Many thought that the international break may have been a turning point, with Rashford having a good spell for Gareth Southgate’s England. However, back in red – he was more or less absent against Sheffield and has now just had his worst performance yet.

Marcus Rashford has his worst game of the season
According to Sofa Score, Rashford had his worst game of the season. He was given a 5.9 rating, lower than anything he’d received before in the 23/24 campaign.
His poor rating is seriously reflected in his stats – he did have a shocker.
- 86 minutes played
- 0 goals
- 0 assists
- 0 shots on target
- 28 touches
- 1/6 ground duels won
- 11 times possession lost
His 28 touches are made dramatically worse when compared to Andre Onana – who had 55. This means a Manchester United forward had 27 fewer touches in derby than his goalkeeper. Yikes.
What’s becoming a real issue, is that this is becoming the new normal for the forward. These less-than-mediocre performances have been a regular occurrence for Rashford – and something needs to be done.
Should Marcus Rashford be dropped for Manchester United?
Lots of fans are now calling for Rashford to be dropped. We’d be inclined to agree.
He’s a phenomenal player, no doubt, that on his day can be an undisputed game-changer, but no player is undroppable.
We have Alejandro Garnacho, who is young, hungry and uber-talented – so why should Rashford be guaranteed a place in the starting XI?
It’ll be interesting to see if he keeps his place, as this performance against City really was his worst of the season so far.
