Manchester United academy sensation Ethan Williams hit another milestone this past week.
Ethan Williams has kicked on this season for Manchester United’s academy teams, after a breakout year with the under-18s last year.
Williams has mixed in between under-18s and under-21 levels this year, also playing in the UEFA Youth League.
This past week he hit an important personal milestone, during Manchester United’s 2-1 under-21 win over rivals City, a game in which veteran player-coach Tom Huddlestone scored the winner.
Ethan Williams grabs another assist
Ethan Williams provided the assist for Manchester United’s opening goal of the game, setting up teammate Ethan Wheatley to score.
Both players were making the jump from under-18s to under-21 level, and combined superbly to net the first half goal.
Williams’ defence splitting pass put Wheatley through on the counter, for the young striker to score his second league goal for the 21s this season.
Ethan Williams now has 20 goal contributions at all levels this season, with 12 goals and eight assists.
The young forward trained with the Manchester United first team last week, and is clearly a player with a bright future.
He had a big hand in the winning goal too. Williams delivered the corner, which a City defender tried to clear, kicking it to Huddlestone, who fired the ball low into the net.
Whichever level he is playing at, Williams is finding a way to influence games. Manchester United’s first team can always do with another difference maker in attack.
Ethan Wheatley is doing well too
Ethan Wheatley is a young striker who is enjoying his best season to date in Manchester United’s academy teams.
He has played mainly for the under-18s but is now getting chances at under-21 level too.
Wheatley has 14 goal contributions too, matching Williams with 12 goals, although only has two assists.
This makes sense, with Wheatley more of your typical centre-forward, while Williams plays wide similar to Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho.
With 24 goals combined, the two Ethans, Williams and Wheatley are a pair of players who have been performing at a consistent level all season, giving the club’s high-performing academy plenty more to shout about.
