Manchester United’s U21 side took on Manchester City last night, and in a 2-1 win there was an unlikely hero that emerged.
On a night when Ethan Williams and Ethan Wheatley showcased their incredible potential in impressive appearances as they cemented their move to the U21 level, there was an unsurprising third hero.
Tom Huddlestone, that’s right, the 37-year-old stalwart of English football, was the hero for Manchester United on Monday night in U21.
Huddlestone scored the winner in the game, a goal which has shocked the United fanbase and beyond.
Due to this, fans have been reacting across social media to the goal from the player/coach.

In a goal which shocked many, due to his age and the fact many had forgotten he was still playing for the academy while coaching, fans reacted.
One wrote two laughing face emojis before saying: “Go on Huddlestone!”
Another fan was absolutely shocked over this, writing: “THIRTY SEVEN YEAR OLD Tom Huddlestone scored for Man Utd U21s tonight… you read that right.”
Some fans even joked over the situation labelling Huddlestone a ‘star boy’, saying: “Starboy. Carrington has done it again with this Tom Huddlestone guy”, while another joked, “Tom Huddlestone is a player I think has very good potential and could be in line for a senior call up.”
Finally, a fan page admitted that it’s a surprise Huddlestone wasn’t featured in the first team during what has been a terrible season: “I’m genuinely surprised that we didn’t reach the starting Tom Huddlestone level of banter era this season…”
Ethan Williams once more a standout player for United
Amid an incredible season for various academy sides this season which has seen Williams rack up an impressive 19 goal contributions, he’s just added to that impressively in U21 action.
Williams assisted both of United’s goals – as per FlashScore – which takes his tally to 21 for the season which is something impossible to ignore.
We’ve tipped Williams for a senior opportunity at some point in the not-too-distant future with his displays undoubtedly something Erik ten Hag will be aware of.
