Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez is impressing at Preston North End, having acquired two assists in his last three games.

The Spanish full-back has cemented himself as a vital part of a Preston side that is now pushing for promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

He’s endured a fine season for the Lilywhites. Thus far he has six assists in 34 games but has also shone defensively, which sees Preston in a fine position heading into the last few games of the campaign.

At 20 years of age, he’s a great prospect and his successful loan at Preston leaves it up in the air as to what Erik ten Hag will do with him next season…

Will Alvaro Fernandez be at Manchester United next season?

Excelling at Championship level, the next step up really is the Premier League for the young left-back, however, with or without Manchester United appears to be the question.

The left-back slot isn’t really a position that United have been worried about this year. The acquisition of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord along with the consistency of long-term servant Luke Shaw, who has just recently put pen to paper in a new deal, means that the Red Devils have two competent rotational players already.

This means that we don’t really see the Spaniard in ten Hag’s plans, however, a loan move to another Premier League club could certainly be the case.

Then a further season in the top flight could ultimately suggest whether Fernandez would be a valid choice as a starter at Old Trafford.

A strong showing in pre-season could help his cause though. Last season he was loaned out before the tour, and so did not get a chance to show what he could do.

He’s definitely got huge amounts of potential and we’re excited to see what the future brings for the young man.
