Manchester United emerged victorious against Arsenal in the FA Cup, with Ruben Amorim’s side going the distance and winning on penalties.
United had some excellent performers at The Emirates. Bruno Fernandes was superb, Altay Bayindir impressed fans, whilst Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt were colossi at the back.
Despite a Diogo Dalot red card, the Red Devils’ valiant performance ensured they’d be advancing into round four of the competition they won last campaign.
Arsenal, however, crashed out, adding more misery to what was a tough week for Mikel Arteta and Gunners supporters. A week that was probably made worse by a reminder from Manchester United fans.

What Manchester United fans were chanting at Arsenal supporters in FA Cup clash
United fans made sure they sang about a club legend for the majority of the fixture, with the away end bellowing ‘Oh Robin van Persie‘ throughout the FA Cup tie at the Emirates.
The Dutch striker infamously left Arsenal to join Manchester United in 2012, joining the Red Devils from their Premier League rivals for just £24m.
Van Persie went on to score goals galore at Manchester United, winning them the league title in the first season at Old Trafford. A feat he could never achieve with Arsenal.
| Season | Competition | Appearances | Goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2012–2013 | Premier League | 38 | 26 |
| FA Cup | 4 | 1 | |
| UEFA Champions League | 6 | 3 | |
| 2013–2014 | Premier League | 21 | 12 |
| UEFA Champions League | 6 | 4 | |
| FA Community Shield | 1 | 2 | |
| 2014–2015 | Premier League | 27 | 10 |
United fans always make sure that Arsenal never forget this happened, as was the case in Sunday’s fixture.
Arsenal and Manchester United crying out for a player like Robin van Persie
Arsenal are suffering the same fate as Manchester United this season – they lack a certain grotesque in front of goal.
A player like Van Persie, who could conjure up something from nothing, would be ideal for both the Red Devils and the Gunners at the moment.
United should be on the hunt for a forward, and with Marcus Rashford’s exit looking increasingly likely, may have some funds to play with in January.
Granted, a player like Van Persie probably won’t be available, but both Arsenal and United must acquire a forward soon if they want to compete with the likes of Liverpool in the Premier League.
