Due to the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability, Manchester United must sell before they can buy.
The Manchester United owners know they must balance the books before they can give Ruben Amorim the signings he needs.
Nuno Mendes is the United boss’ top target but before the Red Devils can meet Paris Saint-Germain’s demands, they must sanction a high-profile sale of their own.
And while Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been made available for transfer, the biggest talking point is another Manchester United first-team player’s Old Trafford future.

Marcus Rashford makes first major Manchester United transfer decision
Following a prolonged decline in form, Marcus Rashford is allowed to leave Manchester United during the mid-season window.
There remains some uncertainty over whether the 27-year-old will leave on loan or permanently, but with three weeks still left in the window, there is plenty of time for the player’s representatives to negotiate a move.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Como is the latest side to join the race for Rashford.
However, despite Como’s board of directors including former player Raphael Varane, who has a strong connection to Manchester United, the wealthy Italian side will not be signing Rashford.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester-born Rashford is not considering the Serie A newcomers as a potential destination with talks instead planned with Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and AC Milan.
AC Milan favourites to sign Rashford
While Borussia Dortmund could be a great fit for the struggling Rashford, it seems Italy could be where the forward spends the second half of the season.
Although Juventus are genuinely interested, AC Milan are viewed as favourites to sign Rashford by their willingness to shuffle the pack to accommodate his playing style.
“The discussions with AC Milan are more logical [compared to Juventus] from the point of view of employment and utilisation,” journalist Alfredo Pedulla said on his YouTube channel.
“They [AC Milan] are more logical if we think that Rashford is 27 and if we think that in that role, Milan has two not untouchable players because Chukwueze and Okafor are not untouchable, so it would suffice to move one out and create the fit.”
Regardless of which club Rashford chooses, one thing is for sure, with his time at Old Trafford clearly coming to an end, improving his form and restoring his career is paramount if he is to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s England plans.
