Atletico v United team news

Rangnick has already confirmed that Edinson Cavani will still not be fit to play any part in this game.

Tom Heaton has been struggling with stomach problems but it would be a huge surprise if anybody other than David de Gea played between the sticks against his former club.

Phil Jones and Lee Grant have been included in the Champions League squad since the turn of the year, so could be in the matchday squad here.

Youngster Hannibal was pictured training with the squad ahead of the game, and he could also get a spot on the bench.

Our prediction: Atletico v Man Utd

This is a very tricky game despite the fact this Atletico side is not the same force it was last season.

Simeone’s side gave Liverpool a really tough night in the group stage. Jurgen Klopp’s men certainly had to work harder for their 3-2 win in Spain than they did for their 5-0 Old Trafford win.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been immense in this season’s Champions League and could well make the difference again on a huge night for United.

A draw here would still be a good result, nudging the advantage United’s way ahead of the second leg.

Atletico are by far the best team Rangnick has faced as United boss and this will be a real test of progress.

Our prediction: Atletico 1-1 United
