Ruben Amorim handed Toby Collyer his first senior start in midfield on Thursday night.
Manchester United’s midfield options have been needing an addition all season long.
Now following Thursday night, Ruben Amorim has found the solution to this headache in the form of a now fully fledged academy graduate.
Toby Collyer as been knocking on the door since late last season, but over the past few weeks he has become a regular for Amorim.

Collyer’s recent performances have impressed Rio Ferdinand, and against Rangers he was even better – arriving as a bonafide option in midfield. When he was withdrawn in the 72nd minute, Ferdinand praised him on commentary for TNT Sports.
“Done the simple things well, got to people, worked very hard. Good night’s work for him, first European game, well done.”
His display was so impressive that it broke a 21-year record.

Toby Collyer does something no Manchester United player has done in 21 years
Collyer made his European debut on Thursday and he was an instant hit, standing out for United.
Both on and off the ball, the 21-year-old was excellent. However, specifically, Collyer’s passing has broken records.
Collyer became the first United midfielder on record – since 2003/04 – to record 50+ passes and have an accuracy of at least 94 per cent, on a debut at Old Trafford in a major European competition.
This is according to Opta Joe, which revealed that Collyer completed 48 of 51 pass attempts (94.1 per cent) which is very impressive.
Collyer also completed 100 per cent of his two dribbles and won three duels.
It was a performance which announced his arrival to the first-team stage and Amorim will not be hesitant to give him another chance after that.
Collyer had a better European debut than some special midfielders
Collyer earned praise from Bruno Fernandes with his outing against Rangers. It is clear to see why.
The fact he was so good on the ball when players like Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Casemiro have all played for the club in this time frame is ridiculous.
Collyer was considered one of England’s best talents when he arrived at United, and he is now proving exactly why.
Amorim has found his third-choice midfielder and it said an awful lot that Casemiro was left on the bench as he has become the fifth-choice.
Collyer will now be hoping he can also start against Fulham this weekend.
