Manchester United couldn’t ride the wave of Thursday’s win over Lyon as Ruben Amorim’s side lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Premier League action returned to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United hosted Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United beat Lyon 5-4 on Thursday night, producing a remarkable comeback to reach the Europa League semi-finals.
Ruben Amorim would have hoped for another positive result against Wolves, but he was forced to rest a number of players following Thursday’s late show.
United talent Tyler Fredricson started in the back line, whilst Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes were all left on the bench.
There was to be no victory and no late heroics this time, though, as Wolves grabbed a 1-0 win over United thanks to Pablo Sarabia’s free kick.

Ruben Amorim on Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass
This was yet another Premier League day to forget for United, with Amorim suffering three defeats in the last four league games.
United have scored just once in that run, with goals continuing to be a real problem for Amorim’s side.
Sunday served up another frustrating day for United, but youngsters Fredricson and Harry Amass offered bright spots.
Centre back Fredricson looked calm and composed in the back line, whilst Amass again showed his talent at left wing back.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Amorim suggested both Fredricson and Amass played ‘really well’ against Wolves.
Amorim added that he wants United to score more goals in order to give young players like Fredricson and Amass ‘better memories’ from their early Premier League days.
“I think he did really well,” said Amorim when asked about Fredricson.
“I think also Amass played really well. We need to score goals so that the kids have better memories from their first games,” he added.
More chances coming for United talents
United’s Premier League season is done and dusted, though a 17th-placed finish would be a huge disappointment.
Amorim’s full focus will now be on the Europa League, with United potentially just two games away from the final.
Amorim will be looking to rest up some of his key players in the coming weeks, just as he did against Wolves.
That means more United prospects are likely to feature in the first team after Fredricson became academy graduate number 254.
Jack Moorhouse is expected to land a United debut before the end of the season whilst James Scanlon and Jaydan Kamason will be knocking on the door.
Amass and Fredricson certainly took their chances on Sunday despite a frustrating defeat, and other prospects will look to follow in their footsteps.
