Manchester United have beaten Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League – but only just.

Ruben Amorim had one man to especially thank for his performance in the Czech Republic, with that being Manchester United’s goalscorer on the night, Rasmus Hojlund.

The Dane was in inspired form off the bench and turned what looked to be another bleak Europa League night to forget into one to remember.

United had some standout performers vs Plzen alongside Hojlund, but naturally, he’ll get the headlines in the paper tomorrow. And rightly so.

However, one man who also deserves credit has to be the brains behind the operation for the second goal.

Bruno Fernandes was sensational for Manchester United vs Plzen

Bruno Fernandes was back to his usual best in the Europa League clash. Fernandes has come under fire for United recently, but tonight the Manchester United captain showed why he is still one of the best in the business.

The simply ingenious free-kick that led to Hojlund’s second ultimately won the Red Devils the game, and the Portuguese Magnifico is one of the only United players who could’ve pulled it off.

Not only this, Bruno, as he usually does, ran himself absolutely ragged on a cold Czech evening. But it was all worth it. Amorim’s European triumph means he is back to winning ways, and he has his man with the armband to partly give thanks to for that.

Fernandes ran the show in the Europa League

Fernandes’ excellence is reflected in his stats from the fixture. It was definitely his best game yet under Amorim.

These are the types of numbers that are reminiscent of the Bruno of old. If United can get Fernandes ticking – the rest of the team follows.

Now, looking ahead, Amorim now faces his toughest test on Sunday when he faces Manchester City. Big games need big players – so hell be itching for Fernandes to produce another display as he did on Thursday evening against the Cityzen’s.
