Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has singled out the one issue that niggled him after Michael Carrick’s men overcame Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Michael Carrick picked up his 11th Premier League win from 16 matches in the Old Trafford dugout after the final fixture at home in the 2025-26 campaign.

Goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo allowed Manchester United to ensure a third-place finish in the Premier League table.

Nottingham Forest fought back against Man Utd in the second half, with Morato and Morgan Gibbs-White both netting for Vitor Pereira’s men at the weekend.

Peter Schmeichel points to Man Utd’s Premier League scoreline against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford

Peter Schmeichel admitted that he could not be overly critical of Manchester United’s performance against Nottingham Forest after he labelled it as a “fine” match.

However, the 62-year-old United legend could not ignore the fact that the Red Devils could have put on a thumping scoreline at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Schmeichel’s argument was underpinned by the Red Devils players failing to capitalise on the multiple chances that Bruno Fernandes created in the match.

“Great entertainment,” he said, as per the Premier League’s official website.

“It was end-to-end stuff for the second half and for much of the first half as well. It could have been anything, really; it could have been 7-6 with Bruno Fernandes chasing that assist record.

“It was a fine last game of the season at Old Trafford.”

Michael Carrick sends a powerful message to Man Utd fans at Old Trafford after the Nottingham Forest match

“I could listen to that all night [his song being sung by the fans],” he said, as per the Premier League’s official website.

“What a way for us to finish the season at home! What a game that was, it’s how we like it. We’ve got to make it hard for ourselves and make it exciting, I thought we played ever so well today.

“It’s unbelievable to see this place like this, it’s such a special place, it does magical things.

“We’ve had unbelievable times over the years and this season we’ve had unbelievable days that we’ve enjoyed.”

United are currently third in the Premier League table and the Red Devils will now return to action against Brighton at the Amex next Sunday.
