Manchester United are celebrating as a team full of heroes beat Liverpool 4-3 at Old Trafford.

There were winners everywhere you looked during Manchester United’s enthralling win over Liverpool.

From youngsters Amad and Alejandro Garnacho, to captain Bruno Fernandes, everybody on the pitch gave it their all and got the reward in the end.

But amid all the winners, there was one Manchester United player who ended up in a worse situation than when the game began.

Sofyan Amrabat snubbed

An injury to Casemiro ruled the Brazilian out of the FA Cup quarter-final, leaving Erik ten Hag with a dilemma in midfield.

Ten Hag elected to go with Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. While United won the game, it was not totally convincing, yet the manager had made clear his preference.

Christian Eriksen was brought on for a rare appearance as United chased the game, with Ten Hag electing for an attacking approach, and it paid off.

Sofyan Amrabat was left as an unused substitute. While Ten Hag’s substitutes were understandable, you could have also made the case for the Moroccan, with United needing to get a grip of the game in midfield, with Liverpool dominating the early part of the second half.

Amrabat had spoken before the game about his desire to fight for the shirt and give everything he could, yet he simply wasn’t called upon.

After playing so well during United’s 0-0 draw at Anfield, Amrabat will have been disappointed not to get at least a single minute in this game.

Amrabat future in doubt

Sofyan Amrabat is on loan at Manchester United, who have an option to sign him permanently for £21 million at the end of the season.

It is an option and not an obligation, and United will be glad not to be tied in. Amrabat is looking more and more like a temporary fix.

He will still have a part to play between now and May, much of which may depend on the extent of Casemiro’s injury.

But if he can’t even get a kick during 120 minutes of football when Casemiro is out injured, then you’d have to conclude that his future is looking a little bleak.
