Amad Diallo was impressive during the Community Shield, but Phil Bardsley had one complaint.
Manchester United will feel that it should have been a second consecutive Wembley triumph over Manchester City – but it was not to be as the Citizens won on penalties.
A number of excellent first-half chances were squandered by Erik ten Hag’s side, but ultimately the performance was really encouraging.
Several players had standout performances which will have given them some confidence ahead of the season starting for real next Friday.
But for one man, MUTV’s Phil Bardsley had one complaint.

Phil Bardsley says Amad needs to be selfish
At least in the first half, Manchester United’s standout performer was Amad Diallo as he left Josko Gvardiol and others sweating every time he had the ball.
MUTV’s Phil Bardsley agreed, singling out Amad for praise and lauding the ‘huge’ impact he had. However, he also had one criticism of the Ivory Coast international.
“Amad. He’s made a huge difference again in this game, you know he could have had a couple of goals himself, and obviously tries to square one to Mason [Mount], but maybe should have been a little bit more selfish and gone himself and slotted it in with his left foot.
“On another day he’d have taken that chance and put it in the bottom corner.”
Upon seeing the chance back, Amad made the wrong call but it is very easy to say that in hindsight and the more important thing is if he gets a chance next Friday, he takes it.
Amad looks better and better for Manchester United
Despite not taking his chance, Amad still toyed with the City defence every time he had the ball and will have once again shown why he is so highly rated by the club.
Amad linked up really well with Diogo Dalot, Casemiro and Mason Mount in the game and these are links which will only improve as he is given more and more minutes.
Of course, the impact Garnacho had upon his introduction cannot be ignored and ultimately the pair could end up in competition.
However, it could be that it is Amad on the right and Garnacho on the left – with neither droppable for Ten Hag right now.
