Manchester United were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline on their trip to Newcastle on Saturday night.
Newcastle United made light work of Manchester United on Saturday night and the 1-0 scoreline ended up flattering Erik ten Hag‘s side.
Antony Gordon scored the lone goal which will have been a huge message to Gareth Southgate given how terrible his counterpart Marcus Rashford was.
Few players will be able to hold their heads high after that display, but if anyone can it’s 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United fans react to Kobbie Mainoo
Fans took to social media during and following the game to laud the performance of Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo.
One fan raved about the 18-year-old as he dictated play in the first half, “Best bit of possession we’ve had all game and it’s Mainoo at the heart of it. He’s top”.
Another fan lauded Mainoo’s maturity and included Alejandro Garnacho in the praise, “Garnacho & Mainoo are the ONLY mature players on the pitch and both are just teenagers.”
A third fan was of the view that Mainoo is the key factor in United’s best moments of play, “Crazy how we finally involve Mainoo in possession and have our best passage of play before returning to chaos ball for no reason whatsoever”.
Finally, one fan explained he is worried that the youngster is breaking through in such a poor team, “I’m so sad Mainoo is breaking into such a dysfunctional team. We are going to ruin that kid.”
Mainoo is too good not to start now
The levels between Mainoo and the rest of our midfielders is becoming glaringly obvious which means he has simply got to play.
He was the only player attempting to settle play down and control possession a little bit.
He was a revelation for United and has been in his three performances, he is the sort of player to build a team around, one which would cost the club a hefty fee if he hadn’t come through the academy.
Fans all seem to be in agreement that the youngster is quickly becoming among the most important players.
