Jermaine Jenas has slammed Marcus Rashford for his woeful display for Manchester United against Newcastle.
Manchester United were lacklustre and poor as they took on Newcastle United on Saturday night.
The performance ultimately was worse than the 1-0 result for United suggested as Newcastle never looked unlikely to win the game.
Following poor displays, once again, effort levels of some of Erik ten Hag‘s most important players have been questioned. None more so than Marcus Rashford.
The Englishman was awful and was caught time after time leaving his man to run free up the pitch as the forward refused to track back.
Jenas slams Rashford
Speaking at half-time on TNT Sports, Jermaine Jenas couldn’t believe just how bad Marcus Rashford had been performing.
“I think he was poor, I think his body language was shocking I really do, there’s been too many moments like this where he is throwing his arms about. I feel like he’s sending a message to his manager almost like I don’t wanna play out here, he’s looking at Garnacho on the left.”
Jenas then watched a clip which showed Rashford not tracking back to this he had the verdict, “Thing like that, that’s criminal it really is… putting your team under that kind of pressure by not doing your duty as a wide-man to be tracking back.
“He’s not half-going he’s never there Marcus Rashford, it’s time and time again and he’s very fortunate [that Newcastle haven’t been clinical]… He has no intention, he’s got not interest in tracking him back.”
Rashford can’t start v Chelsea
We argued just yesterday that Rashford probably didn’t deserve to start here but after that performance against Newcastle Ten Hag simply can’t start him against Chelsea.
We looked far better – although it wasn’t difficult – after his withdrawal and Antony offers so much more off the ball which we missed for the 61 minutes Rashford was on the pitch.
The forward needs to be dropped and fight to regain his place because he hasn’t been up to scratch all campaign now besides glimpses.
