Manchester United salvaged a point against West Ham from the jaws of defeat, with Leny Yoro and Senne Lammens providing unsung moments of quality to keep the game alive.

While not the result Michael Carrick will have wanted, Manchester United drawing 1-1 with West Ham is far from a fatal blow, keeping the unbeaten run alive at a bogey venue for the club.

It was United’s worst performance under Carrick by a long shot, offering a reality check on the title-winning form, but there were still some massive positives to take out of the game.

Benjamin Sesko’s smart goal to claim the point was one moment, while another came through two unsung talents.

Sesko will be in the headlines for claiming the point with that wonderful finish, but the draw can be equally attributed to the game-saving moments at the other end of the pitch.

There were several of these prior to the equaliser.

Senne Lammens made a massive one-on-one save to deny Callum Wilson on one occasion. Meanwhile, Leny Yoro’s perfect cameo included two last-ditch blocks to deny potential second and third goals for West Ham.

These two performances were singled out after the game by United legend Alex Stepney, as he praised the ‘sensational’ Yoro and Lammens moments on X.

“On a positive note, sensational defending from Yoro and a one-on-one save from Lammens near the end kept us in it. Tonight’s point might be gold in a couple of months.”

The pair kept United’s chances alive and well, which set the scene for Sesko to score the goal to steal a point when the Red Devils weren’t at their best.

Yoro stepped up for Manchester United

Lammens was great as usual and unlucky to have conceded, given the shambolic defending which led to a chance he had little opportunity to save.

But a surprising positive was Yoro, with his cameo in place of Harry Maguire showing the Frenchman’s quality after not playing much recently.

Speaking after the game, Carrick had praise for Yoro as he lauded his contributions defensively.

“Credit to Leny Yoro. Those two moments were huge moments. He deserves huge credit.”

Yoro barely put a foot wrong, looked stronger and calmer on the ball for United here, which could be the impact of Jonny Evans in training.

This alone proves why United needs to be giving him more minutes immediately at Maguire’s expense. Yoro is good enough to be a starter and is the future for the club.
