Manchester United fans did not hold back their feelings on Rasmus Hojlund’s performance after a late FA Cup comeback win over Leicester City on Friday.

Ruud van Nistelrooy made his return to Old Trafford for the first time since his Manchester United interim managerial spell ended last November.

The 48-year-old United legend was not retained by Ruben Amorim for his Red Devils coaching staff and Ruud van Nistelrooy returned to management with Leicester City.

Leicester stunned Ruben Amorim’s men in the first half after Bobby De Cordova-Reid broke the deadlock and put Van Nistelrooy’s side 1-0 up before half-time.

United were left chasing the fourth-round FA Cup tie and Amorim’s side climbed back into the contest in the second half thanks to Red Devils striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The Red Devils then knocked Leicester out of the FA Cup after Harry Maguire buried the winning header in extra time, despite being in an offside position.

Hojlund’s struggles continue for Man Utd

Manchester United kept their FA Cup title defence alive and Ruben Amorim’s men will now progress to the fifth round of the competition.

Amorim started Rasmus Hojlund for the fourth-round FA Cup encounter on Friday evening and the United striker played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 win.

However, Hojlund’s struggles in the final third have continued and the 22-year-old Danish forward’s goalscoring drought across all competitions is still ongoing.

The Denmark international has only netted seven times in 30 matches in the 2024-25 campaign and Hojlund has not scored for United since last December.

Joshua Zirkzee has also been met with criticism in his debut season at Old Trafford, with the Dutch forward struggling with his goalscoring output at times.

However, the 23-year-old Netherlands striker climbed off the bench and replaced Kobbie Mainoo in the second half, with Zirkzee making a real impact for United.

Man Utd fans react to Hojlund vs Leicester

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, pulled no punches towards Hojlund after Friday’s 2-1 result at Old Trafford.

Red Devils supporters have insisted that the debate around Zirkzee and Hojlund is “not even close” and the Dutchman is “miles better than” him.

“I think I’m finally seeing the light that Zirkzee is better than Hojlund,” one fan said.

Another X user wrote: “Zirkzee has shown again that he is far better than Hojlund.”

A third tweeted: “Zirkzee is miles better than Hojlund, man; it’s like night and day.”

“Zirkzee has much more to his repertoire than Hojlund and it’s not even close,” somebody else added.

While a fifth posted: “Also, Zirkzee [over] Hojlund. We need a way to get the best [out] of Joshua. He looks [like] a more settled player than Rasmus. Rasmus has been here for a season.”

And a sixth commented: “Zirkzee does more for [sic] and in the team than Hojlund. If anyone needs to go out on loan and play in a s— league to get confidence, it’s Hojlund. He’s getting on my nerves.”

Someone else claimed: “Once again, I’m saying Zirkzee has to start every game over Hojlund.”

“Zirkzee will do this and not start over Hojlund. Amorim is so stubborn or rigid,” another suggested.
