Manchester United fans are convinced that Alejandro Garnacho might have saved Erik ten Hag’s career at Old Trafford after his stunning second-half brace against Aston Villa.
John McGinn fired Villa into a first-half lead on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford before Leander Dendoncker put Unai Emery’s men 2-0 up five minutes later.
Ten Hag’s men were booed in the first half at home and United fans feared for the 53-year-old Dutchman’s future after a disappointing performance ahead of half-time.
However, United saw a remarkable turnaround in the second half and Garnacho spearheaded the Red Devils’ performance with a stunning brace against Villa.
The 19-year-old United winger pulled one back for Ten Hag’s men in the 59th minute before he scored the all-important equaliser in the 71st minute.
Rasmus Hojlund, who has endured a goalscoring drought in the Premier League, finally scored for the first time in England’s top-flight domestic league in the 82nd minute against Villa.

United fans’ reaction to Garnacho’s second-half performance
United fans took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and were relieved that Garnacho’s brace eased the pressure on Ten Hag’s future at the club.
“Garnacho saving Ten Hag’s blushes,” one fan said.
Someone else added: “Garnacho saving Ten Hag’s career.”
A third added: “Garnacho bailing Ten Hag out.”
While a fourth tweeted: “Garnacho saving Ten Hag from the sack… United’s best player this season by a country mile.”
And a fifth posted: “Looks like Garnacho will save Ten Hag tonight.”
A sixth fan simply wrote: “Garnacho singlehandedly keeping Ten Hag at the wheel.”
Ten Hag’s future at United safe for now
United’s 3-2 comeback win against Villa in their latest Premier League clash will have protected Ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford for now at least.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent stake in United was officially confirmed on Christmas Eve, with the Ineos billionaire set to take control of football operations at the club.
Ratcliffe, who will provide £236m into United’s infrastructure, could make sweeping changes at the club and Ten Hag could have been on the chopping block.
Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been linked with United in recent weeks and is believed to be Ratcliffe’s preferred pick to replace Ten Hag.
However, United’s win over Villa in their last home match of 2023 could ensure more time for Ten Hag to turn things around and convince Ratcliffe he is the right man to lead the club.
