Manchester United have pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in recent memory after beating Lyon 5-4 at Old Trafford.
It’s difficult to know where on earth to start after a night like that.
United drew 2-2 at Lyon last week and were looking for a victory in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at Old Trafford.
United were cruising with a 2-0 lead thanks to Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot, before Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico brought Lyon level out of nowhere.
Tolisso’s red card seemingly made United favourites, but Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette left Old Trafford stunned with goals in extra time – and left Lyon on the verge of the semi-finals.
United then experienced a miracle as Bruno Fernandes’ penalty was followed by goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, sparking unbelievable scenes inside Old Trafford as United beat Lyon 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate.

Joshua Zirkzee message to Manchester United fans
Three goals in seven minutes saw United pull off an unbelievable comeback and book a semi-final place against Athletic Club.
Some fans actually left Old Trafford after Lacazette put Lyon 4-2 up on the night, seemingly believing that the game was over.
Nothing is every truly over with United, though, and some supporters scrambled back into Old Trafford to witness a remarkable fightback.
Striker Joshua Zirkzee is out injured right now, having suffered a hamstring problem at Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Dutchman had to watch United’s comeback from the stands, but shared a video on his Instagram story for the fans who left Old Trafford early.
Zirkzee captured United fans singing loudly following Maguire’s winner, stating ‘to all the fans who left when we were down. Have a listen to this.’
The United striker was clearly blown away by the sheer noise inside Old Trafford and showcased his appreciation for the United fanbase after a dramatic night.
United matched up with Athletic Club in Europa League semi-finals
United are potentially just two games away from the Europa League final and a chance to win Champions League qualification for next season.
The opponents will be La Liga side Athletic Club, who beat Rangers 2-0 in Bilbao on Thursday night.
This Europa League run means so much to Athletic, given that they will be hosting the final in Bilbao.
Nico Williams and co will be desperate to give their fans a home final and a chance for glory in their own back yard.
This will be a tough challenge for United, but Thursday night proves that anything can happen with this United side; the good, the bad, the ugly and the barely believable.
