Ruud Van Nistelrooy is set to take charge of his first and potentially only game as Manchester United manager on Wednesday evening.

Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday morning by Manchester United with the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table, with just one win from their past eight games or four wins in 14.

Ruben Amorim has verbally agreed to take over Manchester United. Sporting Lisbon and the Red Devils need to agree on the compensation package before the Portuguese manager can take charge at Old Trafford.

However, before that can become a reality, ex-United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy is set to take temporary charge of the Manchester club, who are set to host Leicester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Here’s everything you need to know about United’s clash against Leicester.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge of Manchester United

As negotiations continue over Ruben Amorim’s move to Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy looks set to take charge of potentially two games this week.

United appointed Van Nistelrooy back in the summer of 2024, with the Dutchman appointed as Ten Hag’s assistant.

Van Nistelrooy was manager of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and the Dutchman has a chance to impress but it remains unclear what the future holds for the ex-United forward.

Manchester United team news

Ten Hag issued a final update on Luke Shaw with the Englishman set to be out further with the left-back yet to make an appearance this season.

Tyrell Malacia remains absent whilst Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire have not yet returned to first-team training for the Red Devils.

Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo remain doubtful for the Red Devils through injury whilst Antony was stretchered off during the draw against Fenerbahce.
