Manchester United return to UEFA Europa League action tonight against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in Turkey.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United returned to winning ways against Brentford in a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford over the weekend thanks to goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho but face another tough European test.
Despite United’s win in the Premier League over the weekend, the European campaign has been far from smooth. A hectic 3-3 draw for United against FC Porto was a rather ridiculous night and the tense 1-1 draw against FC Twente was hardly any better.
After United won against Thomas Frank’s Brentford, the Red Devils have to continue this good form against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Manchester United vs Fenerbahce date & kick-off time

What happened the last time Manchester United played Fenerbahce?
The last time that the Red Devils played Fenerbahce in Turkey was a forgettable occasion for the side with a 2-1 defeat to the Turkish giants in the Europa League back in 2016.
Under Mourinho, United went on to win the Europa League in the 2016/17 campaign but it was a disappointing loss in Turkey in the group stages for the Red Devils.
Wayne Rooney scored a brilliant consolation goal from outside the box but it was a defeat under Mourinho, Ten Hag will be hoping to avoid a repeat of this tonight.

Two former Manchester United players set to feature for Fenerbahce
Mourinho isn’t the only former employee of United who is set to face off against the Red Devils with two ex-midfielders set to feature.
Sofyan Amrabat and Fred, two players who Ten Hag managed, are set to play against the Red Devils this evening.
Fred left United for Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, while the Red Devils decided not to make Amrabat’s loan move permanent.
Manchester United team news
Sekou Kone has been spotted in United training ahead of this clash but he has not been selected for the travelling squad. With Kobbie Mainoo set to be out for a few weeks, United are down to the bare bones in their midfield department.
Mason Mount remains out injured for the Red Devils as does Casemiro so Manuel Ugarte could be given a starting role in the team.
Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw all remain unavailable with the injury crisis now totalling eight first-team players.
As mentioned, due to the current injury crisis, United only have three fit midfielders available for the clash in Turkey, which is certainly of concern for Ten Hag.
