Manchester United have just confirmed the departure of Fred to Fenerbache, with the club providing the Brazilian with a farewell message.

End of an era. Fred is no longer a Manchester United player. A strange midfielder, who always gave everything on the pitch – it’s hard to sum up Fred’s time at Manchester United.

Arriving in June 2018 from Shakhtar Donetsk for a whopping £52m, Fred went on to make over 200 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 14 goals and creating memories to last a lifetime.

It is sad to see him go, as was genuinely a player that cared a lot about the club. The club have reciprocated the love shown by the Brazilian in a farewell message.

Manchester United confirm Fred departure with farewell message

Manchester United took to Twitter to officially confirm the departure of Fred. They gave a farewell message in the post that perfectly sums Fred up at United.

“Always gave it 100%. All the best in your new chapter, @Fred08Oficial.”

Too right he did. Fred always played for the badge and one thing that certainly couldn’t be questioned was his work ethic.

This is what led him to become a fan favourite amongst many supporters. It’s sad to see him go – but ultimately it shows growth from United.

We are no longer rewarding mediocrity

A couple of years back, Fred may have been rewarded with a new contract at the club, just because he’s ‘likeable’ and is an experienced member of the squad.

Now under Erik ten Hag’s regime, we have that idea of ruthlessness back when it comes to incoming and outgoings.

If the £13m departure of Fred means we can bring in the likes of say, Sofyan Amrabat, for a little more – it’s evidently worthwhile.

We’ll miss seeing the little Brazilian in the centre of the park, but it’s definitely for the best.
