Manchester United fell to a 4-3 defeat against Tottenham on Thursday night.
The loss was hardly representative of the game as a whole, with Manchester United conceding embarrassingly poor goals.
United threw the game away with Altay Bayindir directly contributing to two goals as he made two big errors. Bayindir pleaded with the referees to call a foul on the second error, but ultimately the Turkey international just made a mess of it.
Frustratingly, it was not only Bayindir who was making errors.
The second goal Spurs scored came through an error as Lisandro Martinez gifted Dejan Kulusevski a goal.
It was far from the Argentine’s best level and Gary Neville made sure to explain his grievances.

Gary Neville criticises Lisandro Martinez
Martinez was not at his usual best against Tottenham, which has led to criticism from Gary Neville on Sky Sports.
Neville slammed Martinez first of for his handling of the situation which saw Spurs make it 2-0.
While watching the goal back, Neville claimed that Amorim would be disappointed.
“[It’s frustrating as] your defender just flicks it with the outside of his boot, it’s a wimpish clearance.”
Later in the game, upon Tottenham making it 3-0, Neville said that Martinez had been having a nightmare of a performance.
“He’s having a nightmare… the start of the second half in particular.”

Martinez could be a casualty of Manchester United’s rebuild
Under Erik ten Hag, Martinez was heralded as a future captain. But he is yet to impress under Amorim.
Martinez has been playing on the left side of the back three, a position which should suit him – yet recently and against Spurs, he struggled.
- 90 minutes
- 87 per cent passing
- 1 tackle
- 3 clearances
- 1 interception
- 5 defensive actions
- 1 time dribbled past
- 4/7 duels
These stats from Martinez don’t show he underperformed in any one area, but the issue was more that he wasn’t making the defensive contributions needed.
Martinez has been linked with Real Madrid and is a bid arrives, we think all parties would agree with multiple options being better for Amorim’s United.
