Furious Man United fans all saying same thing over ‘overrated’ Diogo Dalot’s performance vs Galatasaray

Manchester United fans brutally slammed Diogo Dalot’s “shocking defending” after Wilfried Zaha cancelled out Rasmus Hojlund’s opener against Galatasaray on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils, who lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener, welcomed the Turkish side to the Theatre of Dreams for their second Group A clash.

Hojlund fired United into a first-half lead after a superb link-up with Marcus Rashford, who picked out the 20-year-old Denmark striker with a fantastic cross.

The United star connected with Rashford’s cross and fired a bullet header past Galatasaray shot-stopper Fernando Muslera, only for Zaha to pull back an equaliser six minutes later.

The ball was punted forward and Zaha “bullied” Dalot off the ball before firing the ball onto the pitch and sending a looping shot over a helpless Andre Onana.

United fans react to Dalot’s howler

United fans on social media were quick to vent their frustration towards Dalot, with others defending Onana for how he was left “absolutely helpless” by his teammate.

One fan called out the United right-back for his “schoolboy defending,” while another slammed Dalot for being “overrated” and someone else said they ‘miss’ Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

“Dalot vs Zaha was always going to be risky,” one fan said.

Someone else commented: “Diogo Dalot getting cooked by Zaha, I’m really missing [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka.”

Another added: “Shocking defending from Dalot, bullied by Zaha!”

While a fourth X, AKA Twitter, user wrote: “Schoolboy defending there from Dalot. Either step up and play Zaha offside or make sure the ball doesn’t bounce.”

“Dalot is one overrated defender,” a fan simply tweeted.

And one fan posted: “Dalot is absolute terrible. What sort of defending is that!”

A seventh said: “Awful defending from Dalot. Onana was absolutely helpless there because of the deflection but he’ll [receive] the blame somehow.”

Dalot needed to do better

Fans were quick to point the finger at both Onana and Dalot, but it was the United defender who should have done a lot better on that occasion.

United were playing well in the first half and Hojlund’s opener was a major boost for the Red Devils in momentum, but it was all undone by reckless defending.

Wan-Bissaka is currently sidelined after he picked up an injury in United’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton last month, leaving manager Erik ten Hag short of right-back options.

Ten Hag has already been forced to play summer signing Sofyan Amrabat at left-back due to the absence of full-back duo Sergio Reguilon and Luke Shaw.

The United boss has also lost Lisandro Martinez to injury, with major defensive issues being the last thing that Ten Hag needs right now.

Dalot is enjoying some regular first-team minutes in the absence of Wan-Bissaka, but he better step up his performances going forward if he wants to keep his place in the starting XI.
