Five winners and one loser as Man Utd win 2-0 against Sunderland, including debutant

Manchester United got back to winning ways with a convincing victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

After the lacklustre display Manchester United put in against Brentford last week, Ruben Amorim will be happy to see a significant improvement from his players as high-flying Sunderland visited Old Trafford.

United had the better of the first half with Mason Mount opening the scoring after eight minutes. The Red Devils doubled their lead after the half-hour mark when Benjamin Sesko proved to be in the right place at the right time.

In the second half, United remained in control of the game, but were unable to add to their lead.

The game finished as United won 2-0 against Sunderland, and there were plenty of winners and just one loser in red.

Winners

Mason Mount

Mount was at his clinical best for United’s opener against Sunderland. The England international received the ball at the edge of the box following a cross from Bryan Mbeumo. His link-up play with Bruno Fernandes and other attacking players was impressive. It is clear to see why Amorim appears desperate to get Mount into the team.

Bryan Mbeumo

Credited with an assist for Mount in the first half, Mbeumo proved to be a dangerous threat throughout the game. He is the one player United have in attack who is constantly trying to get in behind the opposition’s defence. The only thing his performance lacked was a goal.

Senne Lammens

Making his debut for United, Senne Lammens was assured between the sticks. The young Belgian stopper was partly responsible for United’s first clean sheet of the season, but the only real save he had to make came before half-time to prevent former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka. Lammens was comfortable with the ball at his feet and made no mistakes when claiming crosses.

Benjamin Sesko

It took Sesko seven games to open his account for United, but the Slovenia international has now scored in back-to-back games. The 22-year-old made it 2-0 with his first goal at Old Trafford when a low throw from Diogo Dalot found him six yards from goal.

Other than his goal, Sesko impressed with his hold-up play. It was a performance that should give him a major boost in confidence.

Amad Diallo

Back in the team after missing the Brentford defeat, Amad Diallo had his best game of the season on the right flank. The Ivorian was a constant threat against his former club and will look to build on this performance after the October international break.

Losers

Altay Bayindir

It’s a rare occurrence this season that none of the players fielded by Amorim end up in the Losers pile, but there is at least one who was sat on the bench throughout the game. It was the first Premier League game of the season that Altay Bayindir didn’t start, and it was the first time that the Reds had an assured presence between the sticks.
