Erik ten Hag believes one player in particular inspired his side’s remarkable victory over Liverpool.
In a wild game in which we saw the worst and absolute best of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag’s side somehow emerged with a stunning 4-3 win after extra-time.
Scott McTominay had capitalised on a strong start to give United a deserved early lead but they collapsed at the end of the half as Liverpool scored twice in three minutes.
It looked as if a limp exit from the FA Cup was on the cards until Antony somehow squirmed in a leveller with four minutes remaining.
A dramatic period of extra time was to come in which Liverpool again took the lead, through Harvey Elliott.
Yet, Marcus Rashford equalised with a fine finish before Amad sneaked in a last-gasp winner to send Old Trafford into delirium.
Rashford’s goal came as a massive relief as he had missed several golden opportunities earlier in the match, including a great chance to win it with the last kick of normal time.
Yet, Ten Hag has praised the forward for his resolve.

The Dutchman told ITV: “He’s resilient.
“He kept going. Normally he’s finishing such moments and he gets disappointed.
“But he kept working, kept going for another chance and another chance and I think that also then inspired all the players.”
Also speaking to ITV, Rashford said on his misses: “I had to score that chance at the end.
“I wish it was done half an hour ago but we got the job done and we have to get something out of this season.
“Today represents what it always has to me, it’s a massive game in the history of Manchester United. It gets us through to a semi-final but even a normal game against Liverpool we have to win.
He got it right in the end
It was a real mixed game for Rashford, as it was for several other of his teammates, but it will always be remembered for the good he did.
The missed chances will eventually be forgotten and the composed leveller, great interplay and hard work will remain.
Despite the squandered chances and weak defending for Liverpool’s first goal, Rashford is continuing to show signs of his best form now he’s back on the left.
Playing centrally did his confidence no favours but he’s once more looking sharp and dangerous.
Rashford has now scored in three games in a row and he should never play up front ever again.
