Manchester United started the Premier League campaign with three points on Friday night.
It was a win for Manchester United on the opening night of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner in a 1-0 victory for Erik ten Hag’s side – putting the Red Devils top of the league until tomorrow afternoon at least.
There were some impressive performances by United players and the win is the perfect start for the team ahead of an important season.
But during the game, it was a moment from Casemiro that left Dimitar Berbatov raving.
Berbatov loved what Casemiro did in the 34th minute
Watching the game on punditry for Premier League Productions was Berbatov, with the former United striker being impressed with one moment in particular.
This was in the first half when Bruno missed his second huge chance in a matter of minutes, but it was the build-up that impressed Berbatov.
“When you get chances like that you have to score, especially when you are Bruno Fernandes“, Berbatov explained about the missed chance by the club captain.
He then praised Casemiro’s role in the build-up to the chance.
“The pass from Casemiro was pure poetry.”
Mason Mount also played a role, laying it off to the Brazilian before he slipped Bruno in behind, where he should have scored.
Casemiro enjoys another strong midfield performance
After impressing in the Community Shield against Man City, many reconsidered their thoughts on Casemiro – and he was solid yet again during the Premier League opener.
Casemiro was involved high up the pitch during stages of the game when United were on top – and contributed defensively with some interceptions and tackles.
He did struggle slightly when the game became more stretched in the second half – but this would be expected as we all know he is far from quick given his age.
Casemiro can play a role for United this season, but Ten Hag needs to keep the game in a position where we are playing to his strengths.
