Bruno Fernandes netted twice to help Manchester United to a hard fought FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham.

Fernandes had the coolest head at Old Trafford as he dispatched his penalty into the bottom corner after a Fulham meltdown which saw two of their players sent off.

Up until that stage United had not performed well at all, but it was not luck. The penalty came after an excellent move which saw United cut Fulham apart with a quick break.

Fernandes scored another goal in injury time after Marcel Sabitzer had given us the lead, with United winning the game 3-1, again.

Manchester United players react to win

Manchester United’s players accepted they had not put in a particularly strong display. But it was enough.

Marcus Rashford wrote on Instagram: “It wasn’t pretty but we got the job done. The cup run continues.”

Bruno Fernandes added: “United team spirit 💪 Another trip to Wembley.”

Rashford in particular appeared to be off the pace. The sheer volume of games appears to be catching up to him. The match was his 49th of the season for club and country.

There is now an international break which means some players will get a rest – others like Rashford probably won’t.

The next match is a big one, away at Newcastle in the Premier League. April will be a hectic month as United go straight back into juggling three remaining competitions.

With two cup competitions still very much within our grasp, and one already in the bag, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
