After Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, Ben Thornley has picked out four players who deserve praise for their performances this season.
Old Trafford has closed its doors for the final time this season after Manchester United beat Forest, and it was a feel-good outing from start to finish.
Bruno Fernandes matched the Premier League assist record as he set up Bryan Mbeumo for the third goal. While Casemiro got the send-off he thoroughly deserved with a touching speech.
It means United have won eight of the nine home games under Michael Carrick. Pivotal to this record have been four players.

Ben Thornley hails Manchester United’s summer recruitment from 2025
United signed off the home campaign in style and should have scored double the three goals they did against Nottingham Forest.
It was a day in which United’s whole team performed really well, but Ben Thornley, speaking on MUTV after the game, had special praise for the four signings made last summer.
“Last summer, when United weren’t in Europe and still, unprecedentedly by the way, came back with Cunha, with Mbeumo, with Sesko and with Lammens, all of which have played a huge part in United’s meteoric rise, and I don’t think that should go unnoticed.
“It’s been a collaboration from top to bottom.”
The transfer business of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens is one of the best summers United have had in the club’s history.
So they are rightly being heralded, having passed the first season test with flying colours.
Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko become second ever PL trio to score 10+ goals in debut season🔥
What an incredible achievement, how many goals should they each be aiming for in 2026/27?
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko reach rare feat
Thornley is correct to hail these four players, but this weekend is special in particular for three players.
Cunha and Mbeumo scoring means they join Sesko in double digits for this Premier League season, and that means they have achieved history.
- Benjamin Sesko – 11 goals
- Bryan Mbeumo – 10 goals
- Matheus Cunha – 10 goals
By all three signings scoring ten or more goals this season, they join Arsenal’s 2012/13 team as the only other Premier League side to accomplish this.
Last season, United scored just 44 goals; this season, this trio alone has 31, showcasing just how successful the summer recruitment was.
Another summer like last, and United will surely be challenging for the Premier League title.
