Amad Diallo just proved Gary Neville completely wrong after his Man United ‘mentality’ dig

Manchester United produced a miraculous comeback to beat Manchester City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

As pointed out by Gary Neville, Manchester United may not have deserved the win but Amad Diallo definitely did.

The 22-year-old was involved in everything good about United’s performance at the Etihad Stadium. He won the penalty which was converted by Bruno Fernandes and then scored the winner just two minutes later.

Neville hailed Amad as a “menace” against City after he single-handedly rescued all three points for Ruben Amorim in his first Manchester derby.

Amorim made the bold call to leave Marcus Rashford and Alejandro out of the squad against Manchester City.

When explaining his decision, Amorim said: “I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide.”

In what seems like a subtle dig at their off-pitch attitude, Amorim instead kept faith with Amad as a No.10 after he impressed in that position against Plzen.

Amad was easily United’s best player on the pitch and he scooped the Man of the Match award without any real competition. A real statement performance.

Amad Diallo proved Gary Neville wrong about Man United

Ahead of kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, Neville gave his assessment of the current United side and outlined four major weaknesses.

One of those was United’s poor set-piece record, and unfortunately that record has been extended after City took the lead from a corner. However, Neville’s criticism about United’s “mentality” was proven wrong by Amad.

Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville said: “Everything you would not like to see in a football team, Man United have.

“They don’t run very far, they concede goals from set pieces, they lose big matches away from home – they haven’t won in 15 against the big six.

“And they also don’t win games coming from behind, which tells you they don’t have a great mentality.

“All those four things together, there is a real struggle going on in that dressing room.”

A comeback win away from home to the reigning champions suggests United might be turning an Amad-inspired corner under Amorim.
