Altay Bayindir made his debut for Manchester United in the FA Cup against Newport County.
The Turkish shot-stopper was finally granted his first-ever appearance in a Manchester United shirt, thanks to Andre Onana‘s absence on international duty.
Bayindir had a pretty good game. The two goals were certainly not his fault, and fans seemed to react well to the second-string keeper between the sticks.
He was also buzzing to be part of the squad, as is known from his Instagram post following the 4-2 victory.

Altay Bayindir sends Manchester United fans a message
After making his long-awaited debut, the 25-year-old took to social media to state how ‘proud’ he was to have finally put on the United jersey. His post read:
‘Proud to carry this jersey for the first time! Thank you for all the support! Together we will be stronger!’
A very nice moment for Bayindir, made even the more sweet with the game ending in victory.
He should be proud. The debut made him the first-ever Turkish player in the club’s history to feature for Manchester United.
Various teammates reacted to this, with comments of praise and congratulations. This included the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Rasmus Hojlund and Antony.

Erik ten Hag has an Altay Bayindir decision to make…
So what happens next? Well, it seems that Onana will be available for the next fixture, with Cameroon departing the African Cup of Nations, so the question is whether Bayindir can break through to the number one slot.
In our opinion? Not a chance. This, unfortunately, may be his first appearance for a good while. However, what is great for United is they now know the competence of the backup keeper.
This may affect Ten Hag’s decisions in future, so Bayindir will be ultimately happy with how things went against Newport.
