Bruno Fernandes was frustratingly made to wait for the Premier League assist record but he still put on a masterclass at Old Trafford.
It seemed as though Bruno Fernandes matched the assist record when his header set up Benjamin Sesko’s goal in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool.
However, a slight touch from goalkeeper Freddie Woodman means that Fernandes was denied the assist. He stays on a tally of 19 for the season. However, Fernandes was still excellent in other ways.

Fernandes did not get his assist, but his creativity was still off the charts against Liverpool.
As per SofaScore, the Portuguese playmaker completed six key passes and created two big chances.
But, perhaps even more impressive, was Fernandes’ work rate throughout the match. He made five ball recoveries and competed in four duels.
Up until the final minute of the match, he was fighting for every ball. In the 95th minute, just moments before he was taken off, he won a crucial throw-in for United.
Liverpool were looking to pile pressure on United’s 18-yard box, looking for an equaliser, but Fernandes charged down a throw-in from Federico Chiesa to Dominik Szoboszlai.
Fernandes won possession for United, killed Liverpool’s attack and, ultimately, their chances of scoring an equaliser – all in one swift action.
He then celebrated with a passionate roar to the Old Trafford crowd, before being given a standing ovation when taken off and replaced with Leny Yoro.

When United made a lightning-quick start against Liverpool, it was Fernandes leading the press and carving out chances early on.
Liverpool were gifted two goals in the second half, but Fernandes dropped deeper and helped United dig in and stabilise.
There is huge respect for Fernandes among the squad, and he showed why he is the perfect captain for this side against Liverpool.

No doubt, Fernandes will want the assist record, but there is so much more to appreciate about his all-around game.
