I don't chase records, records follow me, says Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s feats on the football pitch are unmatched. He is the all time Champions League goalscorer and the all time international goalscorer.

With more than 800 career goals, Ronaldo even lays a claim to be the highest scoring footballer of all time, if you choose not to believe Pele’s claim he scored 1,000.

Despite a seeming relentless pursuit of glory and individual feats, Ronaldo says he does not chase records.

The star made the comments speaking to Manchester United’s official website.

‘Records follow me’

Ronaldo said: “The records [are] coming in a natural way. I don’t follow the records, but the records follow me so it’s good.”

Do we believe him? Probably not. It’s easy for Ronaldo to say this, now he has chased down and beaten practically every record in world football.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. His relentless drive to succeed has helped him become the player he is today, with five Champions League winners’ medals to his name.

Ronaldo positive about United

Amid a 24 goal season in a struggling Manchester United side, Ronaldo has had to re-adjust his expectations of instant success upon his return to Old Trafford. But he is not giving up.

He added: “But the most important thing for me is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong.

“Sometimes it takes time, but I still believe.”

The 37-year-old is still aiming to play a prominent role under new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who will give the club a fresh start this season.

In his opening press conference, Ten Hag said that Ronaldo guarantees ‘goals’. He’s not wrong, the only question left, is how many.
